doTERRA Wild Orange Essential Oil

doterra-essential-oil-Wild-OrangedoTERRA’s Wild Orange is one of my favorite essential oils! The smell is amazing and it is packed with constituents that promote natural healing. Some of my favorite uses for Wild Orange is to diffuse it, add to my unscented lotion, and to put a drop on my terra cotta necklace. Aromatic application (whether it’s smelling it straight from the bottle or diffusing)  is a great way to uplift moods. Wild Orange is fun to mix with other essential oils in the diffuser as well…especially peppermint.

Wild Orange is commonly used for:

  • Anxiety
  • Digestion (Sluggish)
  • Fear
  • Heart Palpitations
  • Insomnia
  • Menopause
  • Nervousness
  • Uplifting
  • Withdrawal

Wild Orange contains the following properties:

  • Anticancer
  • Antidepressant
  • Antiseptic
  • Antispasmodic
  • Digestive
  • Sedative
  • Tonic

Wild Orange is GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) and can be used internally or also in cooking. Add it to frosting, sauces, desserts, and any other foods that you would like to experiment with.

doTERRA’s Wild Orange essential oils is cold pressed and because of it’s purity, has a shelf-life of 7-10 years. In our home it would never last that long. :) Wild Orange can be applied neat when used topically.

Citrus essential oils only have a shelf life of about 6 months….and essential oils SHOULD NOT be taken internally..unless under the guidance of a qualified aromatherapist…no essential oil has a shelf life of 7-10 years! Finally, no essential oil should be applied NEAT…with the exemption of one or two..and even then, can cause either sensitization or irritation..
I am a UK trained Aromatherapist…and am somewhat disturbed by some of the advice given here on essential oils…having said this..if used responsibly and with the correct knowledge, essential oils are generally safe and are of great benefit…
As for cooking with eo’s..this should ONLY be done with Food Grade EO’s or EXTRACTS….

    • Hi Pippa,

Thank you for leaving your thoughts. I understand your reluctance to taking oils internally or for believing that an oil can have that shelf life. Until about five years ago that information would have been correct for most brands of essential oils. I’m not sure if you are aware of the different processing methods that essentials oils can go through and which ones are the best.

doTERRA is the fastest growing and largest essential oil company in the world right now. They have achieved this growth due to the careful way they plant, grow, harvest, process, test, and distribute their oils. You can learn more about it here: http://www.modern-wellness.com/why-doterra.

Most oils go rancid because they have not been extracted in a method that is best suited to the plant, they could have used solvents to extract, and fillers to dilute. If you have 100% pure oil with no contaminants, fillers, etc… they can in deed have an extended shelf life. doTERRA actually conducts a shelf life test with their oils and you can see their direct response here http://www.doterraeveryday.com/event-qa/what-is-the-shelf-life-of-essential-oils-ive-been-told-they-never-expire-is-this-true/ when asked about the shelf life of their oils.

Most of doTERRA’s oils are GRAS (generally regarded as safe) due to the careful manner in which they are processed. You can learn more about these oils in this book http://www.modern-wellness.com/purchase/modern-essentials-book.

Please let me know if I can provide you with more information on doTERRA’s oils and why they are different.

      Best wishes,
      Christy

  2. For an antispasmodic would I use it internally or topically?

  3. Leah Harvath says:

I have personally asked both Dr. Hill and Justin Harrison about EO shelf life. They both said that doTerra EO’s have an indefinite shelf life as long as they are kept out of heat and direct sunlight. The EXCEPTION they said were the citrus oils which are more delicate and have a shelf life of only 2 years. Like you I go through my citrus oils way too fast for this to be an issue but it is important to put correct information out there so people can make informed decisions.

    • That is interesting. I got the information from a video of a class that Emily Wright did and that is what she said. Now I’m going to have to do a little digging.

I used wild orange topically on my ear lobes last night at a party. It made me feel wonderful & energetic. Unfortunately, I couldnt sleep at all. Didnt get to sleep till 5am. So, I took it this afternoon the same way to help energize me to get through the night. I also used Balance topically over my heart & feet. It totally wiped me out, im exhausted, extremely tired. But, not really relaxed. Maybe, just because I cant be tired right now. Do you know why or what is happening?
