The Miracle Cream
My children and husband have sensitive skin and I have been looking for something that will help soothe the occasional flare-ups that they get. Before I started looking for something that would help topically I figure I ought to look at some of the external and internal factors that can cause the flare-ups. Here are some of the common culprits:
- Soaps and detergents (including laundry detergent)
- Bubble bath
- Lotions and perfumes
- Dry air (think winter with the heater on)
- Food allergy (cows’ milk, eggs, soya, wheat, fish, nuts, etc…)
- Dust mites
What I found to be helpful for my kids was to limit the amount of time they were in the bath tub and as soon as they got out I would tap dry them off and then slather them in lotion. I used to use a lotion that I thought was much better than alternatives…that was before I knew to really read the label. Once I entered the “natural world” I realized that I had natural options. I’ve played around with a couple different concoctions and this is the recipe that I have found to work the best for helping to soothe their skin. At the base is Coconut Oil which is amazing for helping soothe skin issues. If you are allergic to coconut then I would probably turn to avocado oil and make it into an oil blend instead of a cream.
- 1/2 C. Coconut Oil
- 15 drops Melaleuca Essential Oil
- 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 15 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
Mix it up! Apply as needed. Pretty simple, right?
You can also just apply a small blob of coconut oil in the palm of your hand and add a drop of each to it, then rub where you need to. The great thing about this recipe is that it is what I use for sore baby bottoms and really dry skin as well. I love this cream!!
RECIPE NOTE: If you live in a warm area this will melt (as coconut oil tends to do) and will be an oil blend rather than a cream. In these cases I usually put it in a spray bottle for easy application.
